Junior Chef Challenge
Calling all Junior Chefs!
The New Orleans Home & Garden Show is introducing an exciting twist to the Eat Fit NOLA cooking stage in 2018: We’re hosting the Junior Chef Cooking Challenge, and we’re looking for local kids, teens and tweens who love to cook to submit their favorite recipe for the challenge!
There is a (healthy) catch, though: We are working with Molly Kimball, registered dietitian and founder of Ochsner’s Eat Fit NOLA, a program that partners with restaurants and chefs to offer nutritious items on the menu. That means that recipes for this Junior Chef Cooking Challenge must meet the Eat Fit nutritional guidelines.
How does this Junior Chef Cooking Challenge work? Students submit their favorite Eat Fit-style recipe + photos + summary about what makes this an “Eat Fit” dish.
Molly and her team will make sure the recipe fits within the Eat Fit guidelines (side note: students get extra bonus points by providing the nutrition facts for a serving of the recipe, using a free recipe analysis website like the USDA’s SuperTracker site!). A panel will review all recipes and select three for the Junior Chef Challenge Cook-Off.
Friday evening, March 9 at the New Orleans Home & Garden Show at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the three finalists will prepare their dish on the cooking stage for a panel of celebrity judges. The winner will be announced that evening at the show.
The 1st place winner being invited back to cook with one of the Eat Fit restaurant chefs over the weekend and will be featured in a LIVE cooking segment on WGNO’s Good Morning New Orleans Morning Show!
How to get started? Spread the word to your students, especially those interested in cooking. A representative from the Home Show will be in communication will be made with selected student and their school so that their classmate can help support and cheer them on.
